- NNaomiHawaii •2 reviews5.0Dined 2 days agoAaktun Coffee + Bar was a wonderful restaurant to dine at, especially with friends. It’s definitely a place I would recommend to eat at before a night out. The ambience of the establishment was fun with great Latin music; it’s a place that can definitely set the tone for the rest of the night. Granted, my friends and I had reservations for this restaurant on a Saturday night at 8:45 PM. When we walked in, we were immediately seated. Our waitress promptly approached us and took our order for drinks. As we browsed through the menu, the fun music filled the background. For our appetizers, we placed an order for curried mussels and their ceviche de coco. The ceviche was served with green fried plantains, or tajadas verdes (in Spanish). The ceviche was fresh and perfectly zesty. Considering the heat outside, the ceviche was a refreshing appetizer to start the night with. The curried mussels — scrumptious. What made these mussels scrumptious was the curry sauce they were served in. It was slightly spicy, but rich in flavor. Personally, we were ready to eat spoonfuls of that curry sauce. Since it was four of us, four separate entrees were ordered: (i) Bavette Saltado, a filling meat dish served with white rice topped with fried yuca, pickled onion, cilantro, and ají amarillo; (ii) Encodado Del Mar, a seafood dish that had meaty shrimp and calamari, a perfectly crispy piece of salmon served with white sushi rice in a coconut tomato sauce; (iii) Pork Belly Adobo, a hearty dish with braised and caramelized pork belly served with bok choy, oyster mushroom, and white rice; (iv) Short Rib Sancocho, a warm and filling dish (kind of like a stew dish) with braised short rib, small bite size pieces of yuca and butternut squash, topped with a beautiful avocado rose, fresh cilantro and red habanero slices, which was recommended to be eaten with a separate order of white rice to be more filling. Overall, the portions were worth the price and the taste outstanding.More infoAaktun Coffee + Bar$$$$• Latin American• Durham•4.8
- JJuliaRaleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill •2 reviews4.0Dined 3 days agoFood was delicious, and our waiter was great. She was attentive and informative. Auxiliary waitstaff/bus people less so - brought me my soup without a spoon - lots of waiting for water, and we tried and failed to get anyone’s attention to ask for a small spoon to put the cocktail sauce on the oysters. The restaurant was very crowded, although they seemed to move people around quickly - no lines. But it was LOUD. Maybe this would have been better at the edge of the room, we were kind of central, and it was frequently hard to hear each other. Also - so many delicious and unusual sauces, yum! And yet the ketchup with the fries was boring supermarket ketchup, this seems like a missed opportunity.More infoTandem$$$$• Contemporary American• Carrboro•4.4

- EEllenRaleigh / Durham / Chapel Hill •14 reviews5.0Dined on 23 May 2026We had an early-ish dinner before a show at DPAC. Reservation at 5:15 for a 7:30 show. What a wonderful meal, the menu had such interesting options! For appetizers we tried the oysters and the squash dip - both excellent. I had a salad and others had chicken/lamb/smashburger for dinner and everything was delicious! Interesting preparation and presentations!More infoCounting House$$$$• Seafood• Durham•4.1
